Putting
the Spotlight on Indie Design
The
Boutique Square.com provides female shoppers with news on
e-boutique sales, product reviews, and giveaways
Downingtown,
PA: More and more people, especially women, are buying online.
The internet has opened the doors to countless artists,
designers, and crafters websites. These retailers,
also known as indie designers or e-boutique
owners offer very unique merchandise that cant be found
at your local mall. A new website, The Boutique Square (www.theboutiquesquare.com),
shines a spotlight on these often overlooked websites. Geared
towards female shoppers, The Boutique Square provides sales
and discount codes, showcases product reviews, and hosts giveaways.
The
Boutique Square was developed by artist and designer Jill
Pearson, who owns the e-boutique Sophie and Spice (www.sophieandspice.com),
which is geared towards hip moms, babies and kids. After
opening Sophie and Spice, I soon found there was a wonderful
online community of independent designers, many of which are
women designing for a female audience. I developed The Boutique
Square as an outlet for these designers to announce sales
and showcase their products.
The
website is split up into three main areas: sales, reviews,
and giveaways. The sale area is further broken down into different
categories, allowing the reader to easily find sales on the
type of product she is looking for. The reviews and giveaways
feature anything from jewelry to home decor to baby products.
There is something to appeal to everyone at The Boutique
Square, says Pearson.
For
indie retailers, The Boutique Square is a great way to get
their product out there. Product reviews and giveaways are
known to attract more attention than a normal online ad, and
the site also offers affordable advertising options, including
featured sale ads created to appeal to the readers. The Boutique
Square also encourages e-boutique owners to list their discount
codes for free under the appropriate sale category.
Jill
Pearson has a BFA from the University of the Arts (Philadelphia,
PA) and spent many years working as a freelance illustrator
and designer. Her illustration work has been printed in publications
around the country and she has received recognition from numerous
illustration institutions. Jill opened Sophie and Spice after
the birth of her daughter and works from her home office in
suburban Philadelphia.
